Fees

Value Added Tax

Sorry folks, but from 01 December 2007, as a result of a ruling from the European Court of Justice, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs has deemed that it is necessary to apply VAT to all fees.

However, I have decided to share the increase by adjusting the fee structure so that private pilots will only pay a small increase on last year’s fees and I will absorb the remaining costs.

Fortunately, although the fee for a basic Class 2 medical has increased, rule changes about periods of validity mean that if you are below 40 years of age, the medical is likely to last up to five years, thus making the annual increase very small (approximately £8 per year). For those private pilots over 40 years of age needing two-yearly or annual medicals, all of which require an ECG, I have almost halved the fee for the ECG (£35 including VAT rather than the current £60).

The net result is that the pilots in this group will pay only a little more in total with VAT.

Flying instructors and commercial pilots in training will still enjoy a significant discount on the full Class 1 fee. (£40.00 discount)
